Event: Bankruptcy > Miscellaneous > Certificate of Financial Management Course

The Certificate of Debtor Education received from the provider will satisfy the Debtor Education requirement.

  • In a Chapter 7 case, debtor must submit a Certificate of Debtor Education, which serves as proof of course completion, within 60-days after the intitial date set for the Meeting of Creditors.

  • In a Chapter 11 Individual case, the Financial Management course is required if the Plan calls for a liquidation of all or substantially all assets and the debtor is not engaging in business. Section 1141(d)(3). Rule 1007 (b)(7).

    • When the Financial Management Course is required, the certificate is due no later than the last payment made by the debtor as required by the plan, or the filing of a motion for hardship discharge.

  • In a Chapter 13 case, the certificate must be filed no later than the last payment made by the debtor as required by the Plan, or the filing of a Motion for Hardship Discharge. 

To File Electronically:

  1. Log into CM/ECF.

  2. Select [Bankruptcy >  Miscellaneous].

  3. Enter the case number (e.g, xx-xxxxx).

  4. Select [Certificate of Financial Management Course] from the event list.

  5. Select the party filer.

  6. Browse to select the Certificate (pdf file).

  7. Select Debtor, Joint Debtor, or Both for drop-down list.

  8. Verify the final docket text; if correct, click [Next] to submit your document(s).

    Note: The Notice of Electronic Filing displays giving you the document number. Copies of this notice are immediately e-mailed to all participants who receive electronic notification in the case.
