Event: Bankruptcy > Notices > Notice to Convert Case to 7 (for Chp 13 and 12 only, when NO motion filed)

The Bankruptcy Code allows the debtor to convert a Chapter 12 or Chapter 13 to a Chapter 7 by filing a Notice of Conversion rather than a Motion and Order.

Filing Requirements:

  • Notice of Conversion

  • $25.00 Filing Fee to convert a Chapter 13 to Chapter 7

  • $60.00 Filing Fee to convert a Chapter 12 to Chapter 7

To File Electronically:

  1. Log into CM/ECF.

  2. Select [Bankruptcy >  Notices].

  3. Enter the case number (e.g, xx-xxxxx).

  4. Select [Notice to Convert Case to 7 (for Chp 13 and 12 only, when NO motion filed)] from the event list.

  5. Select the party filer.

  6. Browse to select the Notice of Conversion (.pdf file).

  7. To pay via credit card, leave the receipt field blank and select NEXT to continue filing.

  8. The Bankruptcy Case Conversion screen will display, enter the following:

    • New Chapter: Select the new chapter that case is being converted to (Chapter 7)

    • Asset Notice: Change to No

    • Date Converted: Enter date Notice of Conversion was filed

  9. Modify the text as appropriate.

  10. Verify the final docket text; if correct, click [Next] to submit your document(s).

    Note: The Notice of Electronic Filing displays giving you the document number. Copies of this notice are immediately e-mailed to all participants who receive electronic notification in the case.
